Concept

A customizable page full of serach fields, like the one I use all the time, but with a compact and efficient design, and javascript-assisted navigation.

Features

• Multi-column layout and tiny font, so it doesn't take up as much space
• User-defined groupings of search fields

  • Similar search engines are grouped in tabs (i.e. the juareZ tab would contain: suprnova, tvtorrents, tvtome, imdb, isonewz, allmusic, etc.)

  • Javascript-assisted no-reload tab switching, with hotkeys!
• Lots more engines than the current one

• Google field has a pulldown that lets you select the google service to use (local, scholar, university, images, news, etc.)
• Hotkeys to switch to specific search fields
• Cursor automatically jumps to field on page-load
• Navigation between columns

  • TAB - highlight next column (and save which field was selected from current column)

  • up/down - Go up and down between search fields in the currnet column (wrap around)

• Make it a rails app with customizable engines
  • Users can download their customized search page as a single .html file with embedded CSS and javascript (for superfast local-access)
  • CSS Themes
  • Users can add their own engines or groups, which others can steal
  • Multi-tabbed layout with different engines on each screen, BUT WITH NO PAGE RELOADING! :O
