Game Idea
Since I'm totally lazy, and I actually think it stands quite well on its own, here's the conversation that spawned the idea.

Gameplay
The gameplay of the original Archon leaves much to be desired on a modern machine, which finally has more than just a keyboard as input.
With a keyboard and a mouse, the game could have Crimsonland style controls, which offers much more gameplayability than the original Archon. (It would also be pretty easy to code!
As far as weapons are concerned, there needs to be some serious OpenGL action. It's just not a real game without 3D shafts of lightning and plasma shockwaves (made of cheese)!
