Paper trail for things that happen

The most frustrating thing about computers is when things that you don't want to happen start happening and you have no control over them. You know that there's probably SOME way to fix them, but since you have no way of knowing what caused that thing to happen, there's no way of tracking it down in a reasoanble amount of time. It makes one feel helpless.

Perhaps any event (i.e. a popup window) can be traced back to the function in the program that created it, and then back to the setting in the program's configuration that caused that function to fire.
